The Fire Relief Committee is looking for more volunteers to visit families affected by the wildfire. Visits are conducted in pairs, and training will be provided.
A volunteer visitor is a caring, non-judgmental, and empathetic individual, who is able to make families feel comfortable and respected under stressful circumstances. Some visitors may also become the main contact with the family, recommend what kind of relief to provide, and be responsible for follow-up (if required).
As part of parish and diocesan policy, an RCMP check is mandatory for visitors (the parish can provide a form so the check is at no cost). Committing to be a visitor, means you will be committing to helping out, on and off, over the next three or four months (though this could be extended depending on needs).
